Following a gasoline tanker explosion in Majiya Town, Taura local government area, Jigawa State, on Tuesday, at least 90 people were officially declared deceased.
This was confirmed by Jigawa Police Spokesperson Mr. Shi’isu Adam in an interview with NAN on Wednesday.
He added that the explosion had sent 50 more people to the hospital with varying degrees of injuries.
“In Majia Town, Taura local government region, Jigawa, the tanker driver lost control close to Khadija University at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday and detonated. When the accident occurred, the driver had left Kano and was traveling to Nguru in Yobe,” Adam stated.
“We are concerned that despite police warning people to avoid areas where fuel tanker accidents occur, they continue to commit such acts,” he said.
According to the spokesman, the victims will be buried in a mass burial by Wednesday morning at nine o’clock.
He further mentioned that the injured were being treated at the hospital in Ringim General.
