Vice President Kashim Shettima’s planned attendance at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Summit in Samoa has been abruptly canceled after an incident at JFK Airport in New York. A foreign object struck the aircraft, causing damage to the cockpit windscreen.
In response to this unforeseen event, President Bola Tinubu has swiftly authorized a ministerial delegation to represent Nigeria at the summit, which is taking place in Apia, Samoa, from October 21 to October 26.
The delegation will be led by Minister of Environment Balarabe Abass Lawal, who is now tasked with conveying Nigeria’s interests at the high-level meeting. Meanwhile, Vice President Shettima and Foreign Minister Yusuf Tuggar have returned to Nigeria to oversee the necessary repairs to the aircraft.
