The National Assembly has extended the validity of the 2024 budget until June 2025, a move aimed at ensuring the smooth continuation of government projects and financial operations.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the decision during a joint session of the National Assembly, where President Bola Tinubu presented the 2025 budget proposal.
Akpabio commended President Tinubu’s commitment to economic transformation, highlighting key reforms such as the Tax Reform Bill and the Nigerian Revenue Service Establishment Bill 2024. He described these initiatives as vital steps toward realizing the administration’s vision of a modern and prosperous Nigeria.
The budget extension is viewed as a strategic step to support the government’s reform agenda and provide flexibility for ongoing projects. By allowing critical expenditures to continue without disruption, the extension mitigates risks associated with fiscal delays and ensures seamless governance while the 2025 budget undergoes legislative scrutiny.
Economic experts see this decision as crucial to achieving Nigeria’s developmental goals, particularly in addressing challenges linked to project delays and bureaucratic obstacles.
