The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced a temporary shutdown of its passport portal for domestic applicants as part of a system upgrade and maintenance effort. This update aims to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the service for future use.
The announcement, shared on the NIS’s official X page, informed the public that the maintenance is expected to be completed within 72 hours. The system upgrade affects only passport applications within Nigeria, with the portal temporarily unavailable for local applicants. However, the NIS clarified that passport applications for Nigerians living abroad will not be impacted by this upgrade.
In a statement, the NIS assured the public that a dedicated team is working diligently to complete the upgrade and restore the portal as soon as possible. “We are working tirelessly to complete the upgrade and restore full service within the next 72 hours,” the statement said.
The agency apologized for any inconvenience caused by the temporary disruption and expressed gratitude for the public’s patience and understanding. “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this period,” the NIS added.
