Apple is set to introduce a major redesign for iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16, making it the biggest interface change in over a decade. The redesign is expected to take inspiration from visionOS, the operating system used in the Apple Vision Pro headset. These updates will likely be revealed at WWDC 2025 in June before launching later in the year.
The new design is expected to feature circular app icons, translucent navigation panels, improved window management, and more 3D depth and shadows. These changes will give Apple’s software a fresher, more modern look while improving usability across devices.
This transformation is being led by Alan Dye, Apple’s VP of Human Interface, who previously helped design iOS 7, the last major interface overhaul in 2013. Dye now leads a team of 300 engineers working on this significant update.
Apple’s decision to focus on a design refresh comes as the company faces delays in rolling out Apple Intelligence, its generative AI initiative. The anticipated revamped Siri, which was supposed to improve contextual understanding, has been pushed back until late 2025 or even 2026.
Some analysts believe Apple’s bold new interface could help shift attention away from its AI challenges. However, for users, the priority will be how these changes improve day-to-day navigation and usability on iPhones, iPads, and Macs. With WWDC 2025 just months away, Apple fans won’t have to wait long to see what’s in store.
