President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian government, declaring that the United States will immediately suspend all aid and assistance to Nigeria if attacks on Christians continue.
In a statement released Friday, President Trump condemned what he described as the Nigerian government’s failure to prevent the “killing of Christians,” warning that the U.S. may take direct military action to eliminate the extremist groups responsible for the violence.
“I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action,” the president said. “If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet—just like the terrorists think when they attack our cherished Christians.”
Trump’s remarks, marked by his characteristic forceful tone, also included a pointed message to Nigerian authorities: “The Nigerian government better move fast.”
The warning has drawn significant international attention, with analysts noting that an immediate halt to U.S. aid would have far-reaching consequences for Nigeria’s economy, security, and humanitarian programs.
While the Nigerian government has not yet responded publicly, U.S. officials have also not issued further clarification on whether Trump’s statement reflects imminent policy action.
The comments come amid growing global concern over ongoing violence targeting Christian communities in Nigeria. Human rights organizations continue to call for stronger protection of religious minorities and for accountability for the perpetrators of the attacks.
