Nearly two years after the shocking murder of South African rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, justice may finally be within reach. Two brothers, Siyabonga and Malusi Ndimande, have been officially charged in connection with the rapper’s death, alongside that of his close friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.
The Ndimande brothers were extradited from Eswatini and appeared in a Durban court earlier this week. They are facing several charges, including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and unlawful possession of firearms.
The tragic incident dates back to February 10, 2023, when AKA and Tibz were gunned down outside a restaurant on Florida Road in Durban. CCTV footage of the attack sent shockwaves across the continent, showing the rapper being approached by an armed man moments before shots were fired.
Authorities described the murder as a “well-coordinated hit”, and after months of investigation, the arrest of the Ndimande brothers marks a major breakthrough in the high-profile case. According to police, the suspects are believed to be key figures in organizing and carrying out the assassination.
AKA’s family, who have long called for justice, expressed cautious relief over the new development. “We are grateful that the truth is finally coming to light,” a family spokesperson said.
Fans across South Africa and beyond have taken to social media to share their reactions, with many hoping that this will bring closure to one of the country’s most painful celebrity tragedies.
The court proceedings are ongoing, and prosecutors have vowed to ensure that those responsible face the full weight of the law. As the case unfolds, the world watches closely, hoping that justice will finally be served for the man whose music defined a generation.
