The Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, has raised alarm over the safety of Vice President Kashim Shettima, citing significant risks associated with the current presidential aircraft designated for his official travels.
This concern comes in light of Shettima’s recent cancellation of his attendance at the Commonwealth Summit in Samoa due to an incident involving the aircraft during a stop at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. According to reports from the presidency, the Vice President’s plane sustained damage when it was struck by a foreign object, affecting key components, including the cockpit windscreen.
In a statement released from Maiduguri, Borno State, on Sunday, Lawan urged the Federal Government to expedite the acquisition of a new aircraft for Shettima to prevent potential tragedies in the future. He expressed his condolences to the Nigerian Government and the Vice President’s team regarding the incident, emphasizing the need for immediate action to ensure their safety.
