Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and switched allegiance to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
In a statement on Monday, El-Rufai criticized the APC’s leadership, accusing it of straying from the core progressive principles upon which it was founded. He stated that despite voicing his concerns both privately and publicly over the past two years, the party’s leadership showed no interest in addressing the issues.
“The actions of those currently in control of the APC over the last two years indicate a refusal to acknowledge, let alone resolve, the party’s internal problems,” He said.
El-Rufai further explained that his decision was rooted in his commitment to progressive governance. “Throughout my eight years as governor of Kaduna State, I implemented policies aimed at human development. Unfortunately, the APC has sidelined its structures and disregarded its members, which I can no longer tolerate,” he added.
His resignation letter was submitted to his ward in Kaduna North Local Government Area.
