Elon Musk has introduced XChat, a new direct messaging (DM) feature on X (formerly Twitter), promising enhanced privacy and functionality. XChat is designed to meet growing user demands for secure messaging with features like Bitcoin-style encryption, disappearing messages, and cross-platform audio/video calls.
XChat stands out by utilizing Rust, a fast and secure programming language, and encryption methods similar to Bitcoin’s protocol, ensuring stronger data protection.
Key Features of XChat:
End-to-End Encryption: Secure private conversations.
Vanishing Messages: Messages that disappear after a set timer.
File Sharing: Send any type of file.
Audio & Video Calls: Cross-platform calls without requiring a phone number.
XChat’s rollout positions X to compete directly with established encrypted messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal, which already offer similar capabilities.
The feature is currently available to a select group of beta testers, with plans for a broader rollout soon.
