Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the head of the National Agency for Financial Investigation (ANIF) of Equatorial Guinea, is involved in a huge controversy concerning leaked pornographic videos. According to reports, police found more than 300 damning videos on his computer while conducting an ongoing corruption investigation. Engonga is accused of having sex with a number of women in these videos, including the wives of high-ranking officials such as his own brother and the head of presidential security.
Social media is ablaze with the controversy, causing an outrage and sparking heated debates about officials’ power abuse and ethics. The accusations are all the more shocking given that Engonga is in charge of monitoring financial crime in the nation, raising questions about his moral character in such a crucial position.
Although no official statement has been issued by the administration, citizens are calling for accountability and some have even demanded that Engonga resign. The controversy has raised worries about security and privacy in official circles as well as more general issues regarding the moral standards of Equatorial Guinean public servants.
