The Lagos State Government has ordered the immediate closure of the pedestrian bridge situated between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 of the Oshodi Bus Terminal. The closure, announced through the Office of Infrastructure, was necessitated by concerns over the safety and structural integrity of the bridge.
The directive includes a mandate to the contractor responsible for the initial construction of the terminal. The contractor is tasked with erecting concrete barriers at the entrances of the pedestrian bridge to prevent access and safeguard pedestrians. Furthermore, a comprehensive structural integrity assessment has been ordered to determine whether repairs or complete reconstruction are necessary.
In the interim, pedestrians have been advised to utilize an alternative pedestrian bridge located just 30 meters away. This measure is to ensure seamless and safe movement while the assessment and any subsequent actions are carried out.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing the safety of residents and has urged members of the public to adhere strictly to the advisory. The results of the structural assessment will guide the next steps, ensuring the bridge meets all safety standards before it is reopened for public use.
Officials have emphasized that this decision aligns with the administration’s dedication to providing secure infrastructure and reducing risks to lives and property. Regular updates will be provided as the situation unfolds.
