It’s never too late to pursue your aspirations, as demonstrated by Annette Roberge. In the Fall 2024 ceremony, this 90-year-old great-grandmother of 15 received her associate’s degree in business administration from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).
It wasn’t an easy path for Annette to reach this milestone. In 1972, one year after her husband’s untimely death while serving in Vietnam, she started her studies. Annette, who was left to raise five children alone, spent years balancing night studies and several jobs. Despite her will, she had to put her studies on hold because of her obligations in life.
When Annette reached her 90th year, she found that she had earned enough credits in 1989 to be eligible for her degree. She decided to celebrate this accomplishment in style rather than in private, crossing the stage to roaring acclaim and a standing ovation.
Annette, however, is not going to stop here. She has already made plans to seek a bachelor’s degree next year, motivated by her personal experience. Her narrative has turned into a monument to tenacity, encouraging individuals of all ages to never give up on their dreams.
Her experience serves as a reminder that, in terms of attaining greatness, age is but a number.
