The Senate of Nigeria has officially declared the Edo Central Senatorial seat vacant, following the recent inauguration of its former occupant, Monday Okphebolo, as Governor of Edo State. Okphebolo assumed the governorship after emerging victorious in the state’s gubernatorial election.
The announcement was made during a Senate plenary session, signaling the start of preparations for a by-election to fill the now-vacant senatorial seat. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to provide details regarding the election process in the coming days.
In a related development, the Senate revealed the appointment of its retiring Clerk, Chinedu Akubueze, as the new Chief of Staff to Senate President Godswill Akpabio. This decision was also confirmed during the plenary session.
