Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service, has postponed its planned tariff increase in Nigeria, initially set to take effect on January 27, 2025. The price hike, which would have raised the standard residential service fee from ₦38,000 to ₦75,000 per month, was put on hold due to strong demand.
The delay follows regulatory scrutiny from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), which had previously blocked a similar increase in October 2024. Although the NCC later approved price adjustments for telecom operators in February 2025, Starlink has yet to implement its new rates, unlike competitors such as MTN and Airtel Nigeria.
Starlink’s rapid growth in Nigeria, where it has become the second-largest ISP, highlights the increasing demand for reliable high-speed internet. However, concerns remain over affordability, especially as local ISPs struggle to compete.
The company has not provided a new timeline for the tariff hike, leaving customers uncertain about future pricing.
