President Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting scheduled for Monday afternoon. Instead, he summoned security chiefs to an emergency session at Aso Rock now. This move followed the protests that have rocked the nation and made him to call for dialogue.
The cabinet ministers who arrived at the Council Chambers in the Presidential Villa left around noon with only some people present during this change of date. Sources suggest that President Tinubu’s security meeting could be connected with the ongoing unrests and how government will react.
While what was on its agenda is unknown, it was anticipated that the FEC meeting would deal with the demonstrations and chart a course. It follows President Tinubu’s nationwide address last Sunday where he called on demonstrators to halt their protests and come out for talks.
The delayed FEC meeting may occur later after focusing on curbing existing demonstrations among other issues related to national defense.
