Just because your pillowcase appears clean doesn’t mean it is.
According to experts, a pillowcase may harbor up to 3 million bacteria after just one week of use, making it thousands of times dirtier than a toilet seat. Unbelievable, huh?
Your pillow is silently gathering dead skin cells (you lose roughly 50 million of them every day), perspiration, oil, saliva, and even leftover makeup while you sleep soundly every night. Dust mites, fungi, and bacteria all thrive in this ideal environment.
Not only that, but this accumulation can also lead to allergic reactions, acne, and even poor sleep. Dirty pillowcases can clog pores and aggravate sensitive skin, especially if you have allergies or acne, dermatologists warn.
How frequently should a pillowcase be washed? Skincare experts advise washing your bed linens at least once a week and replacing it every two to three days. That may seem like a lot, but keep in mind that your face is pressed against that fabric for roughly eight hours every night.
If you spend a lot of money on cleansers, toners, and serums because you’re passionate about skincare, all of that work could be in vain if your bedding is contaminated with bacteria.
Tell me honestly, when was the last time you changed your pillowcase? You may need to take a laundry day if you are unable to recall.
Because even though your pillow is fluffy and soft, it may be subtly harming your skin and overall health.
Have a clean night’s sleep. Maintain your freshness. Switch out your pillowcase.
