South Africa has introduced a simplified visa application process for Nigerian tourists and businesspeople, allowing certain categories to apply without submitting their passports. This announcement was made by President Cyril Ramaphosa during the 11th session of the Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC), held in Cape Town on Tuesday, with Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu in attendance.
Ramaphosa emphasized that the updated visa framework includes a five-year multiple-entry visa for qualifying Nigerian businesspeople, aimed at fostering closer ties and encouraging trade and tourism between the two nations.
“We are working to create a more favourable environment for Nigerian travelers,” Ramaphosa stated. “This includes removing barriers to entry and supporting business opportunities for both countries.”
Highlighting the long-standing relationship between Nigeria and South Africa, Ramaphosa reaffirmed his commitment to addressing investment challenges and strengthening economic partnerships.
“As we celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations, we look to the future with optimism,” he said. “Our friendship lays the groundwork for deeper economic collaboration. While South African companies have established a strong presence in Nigeria, there is still more to be achieved by tackling existing barriers to investment.”
The session underscored mutual efforts to enhance bilateral ties, marking a significant step toward improved economic and cultural exchange between the two African giants.
