The good news for coffee drinkers! Enjoying your coffee in the morning may do more than just wake you up, according to a recent study published in the European Heart Journal. It may also protect your heart.
Over 40,000 adults’ data from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were analyzed in the study, which was led by Dr. Lu Qi and his team at Tulane University. Intriguingly, those who drank coffee mainly in the morning had a 31% lower risk of dying from heart disease and a 16% lower risk of dying overall than those who did not.
What is special about the morning cup, then? According to experts, coffee consumption earlier in the day is more in tune with your body’s natural rhythm and facilitates better caffeine processing. Compared to drinking coffee all day, this could account for the extra advantages.
Timing is important, as Dr. Qi noted: “Our findings show that it’s not just about drinking coffee, but when you drink it that matters.” Although the study is observational, further research is required to determine the precise link, even though the results are encouraging.
Coffee lovers now have even more cause to enjoy their first cup guilt-free thanks to this discovery. However, moderation is essential as with everything. Avoid taking too much caffeine because it can have negative effects. If you’re unsure, talk to your doctor.
With this in mind, drinking coffee in the morning may be a step toward a healthier heart rather than merely a custom. So celebrate a healthier you and drink wisely!
