David Shikfu Parradang, the former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), was murdered by kidnappers in the capital city of Abuja, causing tragedy.
Early on Tuesday morning, Parradang was reportedly kidnapped in Abuja’s Area 1 neighborhood. He reportedly made a withdrawal from a bank and was then pursued by the attackers. After allegedly seizing the money, the assailants killed him.
Ex-immigration officer Parradang served the NIS for more than 30 years, leading to the Comptroller-General role prior to his retirement. Over his tenure, he was posted to several locations in Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, Kano, Lagos, Kwara, and Enugu. He was recognized for his service by being named an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR).
Outrage has been triggered by the horrific murder, and many Nigerians are worried about the increasing level of insecurity in the Federal Capital Territory. Notwithstanding government efforts to reduce the threat, violent crimes and kidnappings have increased, making locals uneasy.
Since then, security organizations have started looking into the incident and have pledged to find the criminals and prosecute them. As for the late Parradang, friends and coworkers have been paying their respects to him, calling him a devoted public servant who sacrificed all for the country.
