The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) has clarified that the Federal Government has not replaced Remita as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)-approved payment gateway. Instead, Remita will be integrated into the newly launched Treasury Management and Revenue Assurance System (TMRAS).
Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at OAGF, made this clarification in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja. He explained that TMRAS, which became operational on March 4, will incorporate other eligible Payment Solution Service Providers (PSSPs) to enhance revenue collection and remittances.
According to Mokwa, TMRAS was developed following directives from President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Finance Wale Edun to improve treasury revenue assurance and budget performance for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as Federal Government Owned Enterprises (FGOEs).
“The TMRAS is designed to coordinate, streamline, and manage Federal Government revenue collections and payments. It will liberalize revenue payment processes, enhance collections, and enable efficient, timely analysis of transaction data,” Mokwa stated.
He emphasized that Remita remains a secure revenue payment channel but will now operate alongside other CBN-licensed payment platforms. “TMRAS will allow other payment service providers to connect. Remita remains the only approved payment gateway for Federal Government payments and revenue collection for at least two months,” he added.
The government aims to take over the management of the front-end payment infrastructure and expand the collection system to accommodate multiple CBN-licensed PSSPs. Mokwa advised all revenue payers to continue using Remita or visit www.fgntreasury.gov.ng for official payments to the Federal Government.
