Tomorrow Bio, a cryonics firm based in Berlin, is bringing that ideal to life, but at a high cost. When you die, the company promises to freeze your body for $200,000, keeping it frozen until medical improvements can possibly revive you.
In science fiction, the concept of cryonics—freezing a body in the hopes of reviving it later—has long been present. However, Tomorrow Bio is making it a business. The business has already signed up over 650 clients, and it is becoming well-known throughout the world. After death, they quickly chill the body and store it in liquid nitrogen at -196°C to stop it from decomposing.
The possibility of revival is still up for debate. Although cryonics technology can preserve bodies, no successful reanimation has ever been achieved. The difficulty of reversing cryogenic freezing, according to critics, will remain a significant barrier even if medical science progresses sufficiently to treat today’s deadly diseases.
Tomorrow Bio remains confident in its objective, however. A rapid reaction team has even been established by the startup to guarantee that bodies are kept as soon as possible after death, increasing the likelihood of a future resurrection.
Cryonics is still a risk, and a costly one at that. However, Tomorrow Bio provides a chance at a second life in the future for individuals who are prepared to take a risk. Only time will tell if it’s hope or just sci-fi fantasy.
