Mrs. Rosemary Oromoni, the mother of the late Sylvester Oromoni Jr., died in November 2024, ten months after her son was finally buried, causing the Oromoni family to suffer yet another devastating loss.
She had struggled with high blood pressure and severe depression since Sylvester’s untimely death in 2021, and her death has now been confirmed by family members and multiple media outlets. According to loved ones, her health suffered greatly as a result of the anguish, sadness, and protracted legal dispute that followed her son’s contentious death.
When 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni Jr. of Lagos’ Dowen College passed away under dubious circumstances, it sparked a national outcry and a protracted battle for justice. The case continued through numerous court hearings and investigations, leaving more questions than answers, despite his family’s insistence that he had been bullied and assaulted.
Despite Sylvester’s eventual burial in January 2024, Mrs. Oromoni’s suffering persisted. According to her family, she never fully recovered emotionally and had turned inward, frequently engrossed in melancholy over the unsolved case.
Just three years after losing their son, the family is now getting ready to bury her in Warri, Delta State, on August 9, 2025. Many Nigerians believe that this double tragedy illustrates the enduring wounds that injustice can cause.
