Hilda Baci, the famous chef from Nigeria, has done it once more! She collaborated with Gino Nigeria this time to establish a new Guinness World Record for the biggest portion of jollof rice prepared in the Nigerian style.
The record-breaking dish weighed an astounding 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz), according to Guinness World Records. The event, which was cooked in Lagos, united thousands of foodies and produced a memorable cultural experience.
This new accomplishment is more than just another title for Hilda, who already gained widespread recognition for her cook-a-thon in 2023. She explained how 1,200 kilograms of gas drove the enormous cauldron that produced 16,600 plates of rice, saying, “It took nine hours of fire, passion, and teamwork.”
The partnership with Gino Nigeria was a celebration of regional flavors as much as it was about scale. Gino’s recently introduced Asun-flavored seasoning gave the recipe a unique twist, transforming the record attempt into a celebration of flavor, custom, and community.
With the statement, “Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has made her way back into the record books after kick-starting record fever across Africa,” the Guinness World Records team formally acknowledged the accomplishment.
Plates of steaming jollof, served with what Hilda called “joy, love, and community,” were served to the attendees. Beyond the statistics, the occasion served as a proud reminder of how well-known Nigerian food is still around the world.
From a record-breaking cook-a-thon to the world’s largest pot of jollof, Hilda Baci is proving that Nigerian food and its chefs can stand tall anywhere in the world.
