Lagos State is set to enhance its rail transit system as six new train sets head to the city, aiming to boost the capacity of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue and Red Lines. This development is expected to significantly improve commuting efficiency and drive economic growth in the state.
Following successful factory acceptance tests, the train sets are scheduled for shipment and will soon be operational. Their arrival will facilitate more trips on the existing Blue Line and support the planned extension to Okokomaiko as part of the second phase of the project.
Phase two of the Blue Line, a 14 kilometre extension from Mile 2 to Okokomaiko, will connect additional communities, further advancing the state’s vision for seamless mobility.
Since its launch in September 2023, the Blue Line has transformed transportation in Lagos, offering 72 daily trips between Marina and Mile 2. The new train sets will increase capacity, ensuring faster and more efficient services for commuters.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to creating a Greater Lagos with a modern, reliable transportation system, positioning the state as a leader in urban mobility solutions.
