Former Nigerian President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s mother, Hajia Dada Yar’Adua, passed away at the age of 102. At the Katsina Teaching Hospital, she passed away peacefully on September 2, 2024, following a brief illness. As the head of one of the most powerful political families in Nigeria, Hajia Dada was well-known not only for her longevity but also for her political influence.
Nigeria’s president from 2007 until his death in 2010 was her son, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. Her family also left behind the well-known politician Shehu Musa Yar’Adua and the senator from Katsina Central, Nigeria, Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua. Nigeria’s political history was influenced by Hajia Dada, who lived to see multiple generations of her family in positions of leadership.
Hajia Dada has left behind four surviving children, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
