The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has unveiled plans to transfer the operations and maintenance of the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company to private sector operators.
This strategic move aims to involve reputable and efficient Operations and Maintenance (O&M) companies to enhance the management of these refineries.
The announcement was made via a statement on Friday, August 30, 2024, through NNPCL’s official account on X.
The Warri Refinery, located in Delta State, was inaugurated in 1978. It is a complex conversion facility with a distillation capacity of 6.25 million metric tons per annum (MTA), or approximately 125,000 barrels per day (bpd). Additionally, the refinery complex houses a petrochemical plant established in 1988, with production capacities of 13,000 MTA of polypropylene and 18,000 MTA of carbon black. This facility primarily caters to petroleum product markets in Nigeria’s southern and southwestern regions.
