The Nigerian Senate has summoned the National Security Adviser (NSA), the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (DG NIA), the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DG DSS), and the Director-General of the Defence Intelligence Agency (DG DIA) for a closed-door session.
The urgent meeting comes in response to allegations that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is funding Boko Haram, the terrorist group responsible for years of insurgency in Nigeria. Lawmakers are seeking a detailed briefing from the nation’s top security officials to assess the credibility of the claims and determine the necessary course of action.
Government officials have yet to comment publicly on the matter, while USAID has not issued a statement regarding the allegations. More details are expected to emerge following the closed-session briefing.
