According to a recent survey, men in Lagos spent an incredible N661 billion on transactional relationships in 2024. A total of N329 billion was paid directly to adult industry workers, according to the study, which has been making waves on social media. An additional N332 billion was spent on associated costs like travel, entertainment, and gifts.
The survey, which X user @kayomosebi published, looked at the adult industry’s financial effects in Lagos. 1.86 million of the 3.1 million sexually active men between the ages of 20 and 69 who lived in the state’s 20 local government regions were found to be involved in transactional relationships.
The average cost per encounter, according to the survey, was N36,750, while the lowest was N20,000. Prices in upscale neighborhoods like Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki, however, might top N100,000. In Surulere, Kosofe, Alimosho, and Oshodi-Isolo, among other hotspots, transactional relationships were also prevalent.
An analysis of the N329 billion that adult industry workers made revealed that N62.5 billion went toward meeting household necessities, while N93 billion was spent on skincare and cosmetics. A further N62.5 billion went toward lifestyle costs like housing, clothing, exercise, and transportation. While N30 billion was allocated to health and education, including tuition and medical examinations, N46 billion was also invested in cryptocurrency, foreign exchange, and gambling.
In addition to the direct payments, Lagos men also spent N332 billion on related costs. N150.6 billion was spent on entertainment, dining, and lodging; N33.4 billion was spent on accessories, medicines, boosters, and stimulants. Expensive vacations, luxury presents, and expensive purchases all added to the enormous expenditure.
The survey has generated a lot of discussion regarding Lagos men’s lifestyle choices and financial priorities, with many raising concerns about the long-term effects of such high spending on transactional relationships.
