The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a nationwide reduction in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol. Effective immediately, the new pricing structure sees petrol retailing between ₦875 and ₦905 per litre, depending on the region a uniform ₦15 decrease across all partner outlets.
Regional Pricing Breakdown
The revised prices, as disseminated via the refinery’s official social media channels, are as follows:
•Lagos: ₦875 per litre
•South-West: ₦885 per litre
•North-West & North-Central: ₦895 per litre
• South-South, South-East & North-East: ₦905 per litre
These rates are applicable at all major fuel marketing partners of the refinery, including MRS, Ardova (AP), Heyden, Optima Energy, Techno Oil, and Hyde Energy.
This latest price adjustment is part of a broader strategy by the Dangote Refinery to stabilize fuel prices and enhance affordability for Nigerians. Since commencing operations, the refinery has implemented multiple price cuts, including a combined ₦125 reduction in February and an additional ₦45 decrease in April 2025.
The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has interpreted these successive reductions as a strategic maneuver by Dangote to assert dominance in the downstream petroleum sector. IPMAN spokesperson Chinedu Ukadike noted that such aggressive pricing could pressure independent marketers, potentially leading to financial losses of ₦20 to ₦25 per litre on existing stock.
Commitment to National Economic Goals
Aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s “Nigeria First” policy, which emphasizes the prioritization of locally-produced goods and services, the Dangote Refinery has urged other marketers to join its expanding network. The refinery asserts that domestic refining not only ensures energy security but also contributes to foreign exchange savings and overall economic resilience.
Furthermore, the refinery has assured consumers of an uninterrupted fuel supply, citing sufficient reserves to meet domestic demand and surplus capacity for export. This commitment is particularly significant given the global volatility in crude oil prices.
Emphasizing quality and environmental considerations, the Dangote Refinery highlighted that its petrol and diesel products are refined for optimal engine performance and are environmentally friendly. The refinery also encourages consumers to report any instances of non-compliance with the new pricing structure through its official hotline.
