Residents of Lagos, prepare yourself! The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) has released its most recent Air Quality Index (AQI) report, and it shows that certain areas of the metropolis are not doing well. With a startling 103% score—well above permissible limits—Agege has been identified as having the most dangerous air quality. Living in or near Agege may expose you to air that is harmful to your health.
With an air quality rating of 76.1%, Surulere was not far behind, being categorized as “very unhealthy.” With percentages ranging from 36.4% to 47.3%, harmful air levels were also observed at Mushin, LAMATA Kosofe, and the Lagos Port at Apapa. This is a major wake-up call, particularly for those who suffer from asthma or other respiratory disorders.
There is some good news, though. Lekki and the General Hospital Ikeja had comparatively good air quality, scoring only 10.1% and 12.6%, respectively. Although there are still issues with the state’s air quality, LASEPA has reassured citizens that they are making every effort to fix it.
It’s crucial to take preventative measures, particularly if you reside in a high-risk location. If at all possible, use air purifiers at home and limit your time spent outside, particularly during periods of high pollution.
Are you a resident of one of these high-pollution areas or are you breathing easy? Maybe it’s time to check!
