Apple is reportedly developing a smart doorbell camera equipped with Face ID technology to provide a secure and seamless way to unlock doors. According to Bloomberg, the device is expected to debut by the end of 2025, marking Apple’s entry into biometric-based smart home solutions.
The smart doorbell camera will use Face ID, similar to Apple’s iPhones, to automatically recognize residents and unlock the door. It will feature Apple’s Secure Enclave chip to ensure privacy by securely storing and processing Face ID data separate from the device’s main hardware.
Designed to integrate with existing smart home systems, the camera will support HomeKit and third-party smart locks, making it compatible with current setups. Apple may also collaborate with a smart lock manufacturer to offer a comprehensive security solution for users.
This smart doorbell is part of Apple’s broader push into the smart home market. The company is reportedly working on additional devices, including a new security camera slated for 2026 and smart displays. These displays may include an iPad-like device that magnetically attaches to wall mounts or speaker bases, as well as a more advanced model with a robotic arm.
Apple is also developing the “Proxima” Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip, expected to enhance connectivity in devices like the HomePod Mini and Apple TV by 2025.
In addition to smart home innovations, Apple plans to expand its health-focused features. By 2025, the Apple Watch lineup is expected to include satellite communication capabilities, enabling messaging in areas without cellular coverage. The company is also working on real-time blood pressure monitoring, a breakthrough for wearable health technology.
