Debo Adedayo, best known by his stage name Mr. Macaroni, is a well-known comedian and actor from Nigeria. His emotionally charged disclosure of his financial difficulties has stunned followers. The comedian revealed in a recent social media post that he was once deeply in debt—more than half a billion naira—and that it almost ruined him.
The actor, who is renowned for his activism and caustic comedy, revealed that his problems started in 2021–2022, when he was duped and had an unsuccessful investment. His savings were completely depleted by the financial setback, but he decided to keep his difficulties to himself. “I was really shaken by it, but I didn’t tell anyone about it,” he wrote.
In an effort to fulfill his financial obligations, Mr. Macaroni took out a loan, which he expected to pay back easily due to his consistent income. But he quickly discovered that interest payments were overwhelming him. “I make money in millions so I never thought borrowing money to pay back with interests could ever be a problem. But I got too comfortable,” he admitted.
The comedian also mentioned his history of financial irresponsibility as a significant problem. “I am a financially reckless person. I know it. My family and friends have always said it… I would give out my money for lunch to someone who didn’t have breakfast, forgetting that I would go hungry when it’s time for lunch.”
In 2024, Mr. Macaroni’s acting career took off despite the challenges, as his roles in movies shown at international festivals. But he was further shaken by the betrayal of a close friend.
He told fans not to give up during tough times, as he is currently on his way to recovery. “You are alive for a reason. And every day of your life, you must fight to be a better person than you were yesterday.”
