All government workers must return to full-time office work on April 1, 2025, as the Lagos State Government has announced the end of its work-from-home policy.
The decision was taken by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu as part of initiatives to increase service delivery and efficiency throughout government departments. Bode Agoro, the Lagos State Head of Service, confirmed the announcement in a statement issued on Tuesday.
After fuel subsidies were eliminated, the work-from-home policy was implemented in February 2024 to lessen the financial strain on employees. To cut down on commuting expenses, the program permitted federal servants to work from home on designated days. However, the government feels that it is time for all workers to return to their workplaces full-time, especially with the introduction of a new minimum wage and other social enhancements.
Agoro underlined that the action is in line with continuing plans to boost output and provide more effective public services. He called on government employees to recommit to their duties and get ready for the complete shift back to office-based work.
Government employees have been instructed to follow the new regulation, and the policy will be rigorously enforced by ministries, departments, and agencies. Accounting authorities have also been told to spread the word among employees.
The government maintains that this move is in the best interests of service delivery and will ultimately benefit the public, even though some employees may find the change difficult after more than a year of remote flexibility.
Lagos State employees are anticipated to completely return to in-person work as the April deadline draws near, bringing an end to the age of remote work.
