The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a recall for Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap (100g), batch number 81832M 08, manufactured in Germany. The recall is due to the presence of a harmful chemical impurity identified as Butylphenyl Methylpropional (BMHCA), commonly known as Lilial.
NAFDAC has stated that this soap fails to meet Cosmetic Products Regulation standards due to the inclusion of BMHCA. This chemical is linked to serious health risks, such as reproductive harm and adverse effects on unborn children. It can also cause skin sensitization, leading to potential allergic reactions.
In its statement, NAFDAC highlighted that BMHCA has been banned in cosmetics across several European Union countries due to these significant health concerns. The agency is advising the public to avoid using this specific batch of Dove soap.
Additionally, other Dove products have faced similar recalls or bans in various countries because of BMHCA. These include Derma Spa Goodness, Men Care, Men Care+ Sensitive Shield, Natural Touch, Nourishing Body Care Light Hydro, Pampering Body Lotion, Go Fresh, Talco con Crema, Go Fresh Pera, Extra Fresh, Goodness3 Skincare Ritual, Invisible Dry Antiperspirant Spray, and Go Fresh Revitalize Nourishing Shower Gel.
