Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment. On February 28, 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan stated in a live appearance on Arise Television that the incident happened in December 2023, the day before both of their birthdays, while they were visiting Akpabio’s home in Akwa Ibom State.
She claims that when he was showing her around his home, Akpabio said offensive things. “He walked from room to room, holding my hands, showing me the beautiful interiors,” she recalled. Then he declared, “Now that you are a senator, I will make time for us to come and spend quality time here.” “It will be enjoyable for you. At that moment, I simply withdrew because I didn’t understand what he meant.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed she has been harassed and targeted for attempts to damage her reputation in the Senate ever since she turned down his approaches. When Akpabio ordered her to leave the Senate floor last Thursday because she refused to transfer to a newly assigned seat, tensions reached a breaking point.
Since then, the senator from Kogi Central has sued Akpabio, claiming defamation and demanding N300 million in litigation fees and N100 billion in general damages.
Akpabio, the Senate President, has not yet addressed these accusations. Everyone is watching the Senate for more developments as the tale progresses.
