As it turns out, guys now use the bathroom as a much-needed escape route in addition to a place to take a bath. Many men spend up to seven hours a year confined in the bathroom, according to a poll conducted by bathroom experts Pebble Grey.
For many men, the restroom has subtly evolved into their personal haven from the stresses of daily life. The restroom is now the ultimate “man cave,” whether it’s for avoiding housework, avoiding the ruckus made by the kids, or taking a break from work calls and obligations.
According to the study, which polled 1,000 men in Britain, the majority of them spend their bathroom time in silence, browsing on their phones, or taking a break from domestic chores. Indeed, a quarter of them said that they were unsure of how they would manage without their private haven. A further twenty-three percent even referred to it as their “safe place.”
However, the amusing part is that 85% of these men claimed to still be interrupted even after locking the door. Alone time is sorely lacking!
This odd statistic, however, highlights something that many people fail to notice: everyone, even husbands and fathers, needs a minute to simply relax. And it’s okay if that means spending a few more minutes hiding out on the toilet.
No matter how little, personal space is crucial, and these moments—whether they involve a quiet sit-down or a restroom break—serve as a reminder. It may not be nature calling, so keep that in mind the next time someone vanishes into the bathroom for an extended period of time. There might be nothing but silence on the other end of the call.
